2026 BOARD OF DIRECTORS

All Board of Directors members are volunteers and voted in by our members. Positions are up for nomination annually, with final elections held each November. If you are interested in a position or would like to nominate a member for a position, please contact info@svtriclub.org.

The SVTC Board of Directors meetings are typically held on the third Monday of each month. These meetings are open to all club members who are interested in listening in on items discussed on the agenda. Members who wish to attend should contact a member of the board for the exact date, time, and location of each meeting.

The board is always looking for enthusiastic people to help SVTC continue to be a great club for multi-sport athletes!

Rick_Schwartz.jpg
Rick Schwartz, President

Rick competed in his first triathlon in 2008 after conquering a serious fear of open water. Since then he has completed over 40 triathlons including two Ironman events. Rick joined SVTC in 2012 and has served many years on our board as Coaching Director, Secretary, and Vice President. He is a passionate organizer of SVTC open water swims, practice tri's, training weekends, and our bike-run events known as "Brick Madness." (Aka "Rick Madness")

Suzanne Loftus, Vice President

Suzanne joined SVTC in 2011 and is now an "experienced" member who has completed various endurance events from relay swims across Lake Tahoe and century rides to competitive events like running races and triathlons of all distances. She is currently working to improve her nutrition and sleep and adding weights to her triathlon lifestyle.
Bryant_Truong.jpg
Bryant Truong, Secretary

Bryant completed his first sprint triathlon in 2017 and later joined SVTC in 2018 realizing there was so much more to learn and grow. Bryant’s true passions are anything on a dirt trail or rock wall, but has found gratification by attending and assembling group workouts and seeing his friends suffer as much as he does. Bryant joined the board to grow and improve the community because it has given him so much over the years.

He has completed serveral 70.3 Ironman races and has a personal goal to complete one under 5 hours. When he’s not working out, he enjoys building and servicing bicycles, planning his next weekend adventure, and peer pressuring his friends to check out a “new, secret trail” he’s found.

Dan Tuchler, Treasurer

Dan can be found most weekends swimming in the beautiful Pacific ocean at Santa Cruz. He first found this passion about five years ago, joining a group of swimmers that grew to become the Water Dogs. Dan loves to share his enthusiasm and help people get more comfortable in the ocean. Dan did his first OLY triathlon at age 62 and his first 70.3 last year at age 68. Those were slow but he plans to get a little faster this year.
Josh_Hanley.jpg
Josh Hanley, Coaching Director

Josh has been a member of SVTC since 2022. Before triathlon he was a collegiate swimmer. The run is the most challenging part of triathlon and his best sport is the bike. He has made many friends in SVTC over the past seasons. His advice to newbies is patience - it takes time to be successful, don't compare yourself to others.
Tatiana_Zander.jpg
Tatiana Zander, Sponsorship Director

Tatiana thought only superheroes could do Ironmans, ever since watching a documentary as a kid. Fast forward, when Covid hit, she started taking on bigger challenges with a 600mi cycling fund raiser and her first half marathon. Seeing fast progress, she signed up to her first triathlon - Ironman California, 2021. Thanks to a massive storm, the race got cancelled, and delayed her first triathlon to Oceanside 70.3 and Ironman California in 2022 - where she befriended SVTC members and soon became an active member of the club and now is primarily known for her selfie skills. To date, she has completed several full Ironmans, incl. world champs, and a number of ultra trail races - always looking for scenic views and the next bucket list race!
Yumi_Scotzniovsky.jpg
Yumi Scotzniovsky, Social Director

Yumi joined SVTC in 2023 without a competitive background in swimming, cycling, or running and completed several 70.3 Ironmans. Her goal this year is to try something longer and tougher. She learned so much from the club and thanks for the inspiration and motivation from fellow members. As social director, Yumi is looking forward to getting to know all members, and thrilled to help foster genuine connection in this welcoming and empowering community.
Kaitlyn_Chan.jpg
Kaitlyn Chan, Membership Director

Kaitlyn has done a grand total of 2 triathlons after joining SVTC in 2024, and intends to steadily increase that number! Encouraged by the welcoming members of SVTC, she is now training for the Primavera Century ride and probably some race in Santa Cruz. She hopes you give SVTC a shot, and looks forward to chatting with you on the weekend bike rides.
Elena_Zennaro.jpg
Elena Zennaro, Volunteer Director

Elena is excited to join the board as Volunteering Director. With a swimming background, she has always felt most at home in the water and has built her athletic life around staying active. When she’s not swimming, she is probably outdoors - hiking, running, surfing. About a year ago she caught the triathlon bug and quickly fell in love with the sport, completing few sprints and Olympic races. She especially loves the energy and community spirit of volunteering at races and is passionate about giving back to the sport. Looking ahead — she’s excited to keep growing in triathlon — with a 70.3 race as a potential future goal.
Dean_Liu.jpg
Dean Liu, Communications Director

Dean did two sprint triathlons in 2011 and 2013, then retired for a decade because he felt he had earned it. In 2023, nostalgia and poor decision-making led him back to triathlon via SVTC, where his brain remembered being fast and his body strongly disagreed. After many humbling workouts, excessive foam rolling, and strategic avoidance of running, he’s completed multiple Sprint and Olympic races and several 70.3 relays. Now retired and serving as Communications Director (this bio is his fault), Dean’s goal is steady fitness for the next 30+ years—and maybe, someday, an individual 70.3 if nothing breaks.
